The Agreement on Television and Radio Licence Fees (Rundfunkbeitragsstaatsvertrag – RBStV) provides that all diplomatic missions and career consular posts in Germany are exempted from the licence fee.

The exemption also includes the private households of the home-based members of the diplomatic missions and career consular posts and family members who form part of their households, as well as home-based administrative and technical staff. No exemption can however be granted from cable television fees, since these are charged for services rendered by a private company.
