In principle, consent will be given for persons on secondment to perform functions as a member of a mission for a fixed term; such secondments may not however exceed a period of twelve months.

Such persons are to be registered with the Federal Foreign Office in accordance with the information on registration after entry.

A protocol card (Protokollausweis) is not issued for postings of three months or less.

Short-term postings for training purposes

The training may not exclusively consist of language instruction. Rather, the trainee should already be integrated into the mission’s operations.

Any residence permit required for a language course falls under the sole jurisdiction of the local foreigners authorities.

Family members

It is not possible for family members to join the member of the mission for the duration of their secondment.
