International agreements, in particular the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, form an important common basis for the Federal Republic of Germany’s cooperation with its partners.

The Federal Foreign Office Protocol Directives set out the application of the Vienna Conventions in protocol practice and lay down the procedures for cooperation between the Federal Foreign Office and diplomatic missions. They are intended to aid you and facilitate your work. However, they should not be considered exhaustive and are subject to ongoing changes and updates.
